Summer CMUG Newsletter

Greetings!

Apologies for such a late follow up to our June meeting!  At our last Central Maryland Users Group meeting, we had about 30 people join us, and three of them enlightened us with presentations of both past and ongoing projects.

The first presentation was the MC-StormNET project by Steve Long and Dan Higgins.  This has been an ongoing project for Montgomery County to compile and capture storm drain data, then be able to share it between different departments.

The second presentation was on an ArcGIS online application developed by Arthur Cage, a geography professor at CCBC Catonsville.  Professor Cage presented his ArcGIS online web application for his ongoing research of area churches.  Working with pastors, he hopes to provide greater networking and connectivity between parishes, as well as create a hub of information on worship services as well as services offered by the churches (such as shut-in visitations).

The last presentation was by Scott Jeffrey on his ongoing project creating a new campus map integrating City Engine, Pictometry, and ArcGIS Online.  Professor Jeffrey has been working with former student Dave Glover on an interactive campus map for all CCBC locations.  This map will service students, faculty, and facilities, as well as enable emergency responders to navigate and guide people through or out of a building should a disaster occur.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Friday, December 4th at CCBC Catonsville.  Since this date is right before finals week, we may need to change...stay tuned.  We are currently in contact with our ESRI presentor, who will be Matt Martini.  We are also soliciting for presentations early this year so we will have a full and well-rounded lineup prepared in December.

Please email Scott Jeffrey at sjeffrey@ccbcmd.edu and cc esricmug@gmail.com if you have interest in presenting...students welcome, but be prepared to speak for 15-20 minutes!

I hope to see you all at our next meeting!
